Our Monday Muse and Motivation: Vidya Balan

Published

on

Meet our #MondayMuse and imbibe her words of wisdom o get you though, not just this week, but your whole life ahead of you. Thank you to our muse, the Bold and the Beautiful Miss Vidya Balan

It’s a dreary Monday and while we literally had to drag ourselves to work today the only thing that has kept us going over the past couple weeks is opening up social media and seeing some stellar videos and interviews featuring Vidya Balan. Vidya has donned the role of many lead characters in films like Ishqiya, Kahaani and The Dirty Picture, which solely depended on her capability as an actor to become the box office successes. But more recently (and importantly) she has garnered a reputation as one of the most ballsy female actors to have come out of Bollywood since the turn of the millennium and for good reason. She speaks her mind and takes strong stands on women’s issues. Never one to mince words she has overt about her feminist views and gave us all #goals when it comes to being confident about your body, standing up for yourself and your choices and rocking a saree all day every day.

Here’s some Monday motivation for all of us, courtesy of Vidya.

On Body Shaming and Being Confident in you Own Skin

Vidya has long been targeted for her voluptuousness with many haters who say that she isn’t fit for the  ‘glamour roles’. She’s had quite a few apt responses for all of them.

“I think a woman should be wholesome, voluptuous and sizzling!”

“As women, we are constantly criticising and judging ourselves in terms of our body, how we dress, what profession we take up, how we fare in that. Indian women are gifted with certain body types and features, which is healthy, and we should accept that.”

On Her Sense of Style and Fashion

Her style statement is very traditional and she mostly dons her trademark saree (that she totally rocks BTW!)

“I enjoy the sari. I think it’s the sexiest garment ever. It shows you the right amount, it covers the right amount, it’s extremely versatile, it suits every body type, it suits every face.”

“I’m not fashionable, and I know nothing about fashion, but I have my individual style, and style is eternal.”

On Breaking the Stereotypes of Being a Married Woman

As if it wasn’t enough that most of the world rolled their eyes at her until she was married, they then moved onto their next demand, children. Vidya has gone about breaking the stereotypes of what the perfect biwi (wife) and bahu (daughter in law) ought to be.

“The day I got married, one of my uncles told me at the wedding venue, ‘Next time I see you (and Siddharth), I should be looking at three people, not two’. This was even before our wedding pictures could be clicked. I politely laughed because we hadn’t even decided on our honeymoon destination then,”

“What is this baby obsession? I am not a baby-making machine. Anyway, the world population is on a rise. If some people don’t have children, it’s fine,”

Vidya broke the stereotypes and swept them out of the house when she very candidly admitted that she doesn’t cook.

“I can’t cook to save my life.”

To the Nosy & Judgemental Characters in Society

From her trolls on social media to the nosy auntiji’s in real life, we all ought to take a leaf out of her book and learn how to stand up for ourselves and more importantly how to love and respect oneself. Vidya lives by her #DGAF attitude when it comes to what society thinks of her.

“I don’t bother about how people feel about me. What matters to me is how I feel about them.”

“Women need to learn to value themselves. But that has to be inculcated in men as much as women.”

5 Sustainable Interior Design Trends to Embrace in 2024

Published

on

As the world becomes increasingly aware of the importance of sustainability, it’s no surprise that eco-friendly practices are making their way into the realm of interior design. In 2024, we can expect to see a surge in sustainable interior design trends that not only enhance the beauty of our living spaces but also minimise our environmental footprint. From repurposed materials to energy-efficient solutions, here are five sustainable interior design trends to embrace this year.

Upcycled Furniture:

One of the most prominent sustainable interior design trends of 2024 is the use of upcycled furniture. Instead of buying new pieces, consider giving old furniture a new lease on life by refurbishing or repurposing them. From reclaimed wood tables to refurbished chairs, upcycled furniture adds character and charm to your space while reducing waste and conserving resources.

Biophilic Design:

Biophilic design, which emphasizes a connection to nature, continues to gain popularity in 2024. Integrating natural elements such as plants, natural light, and organic materials into your interior design not only enhances aesthetics but also promotes well-being and sustainability. Consider incorporating living walls, indoor gardens, and sustainable wood finishes to bring the outdoors inside and create a healthier living environment.

Energy-Efficient Lighting:

With a growing focus on energy conservation, energy-efficient lighting solutions are becoming a staple in sustainable interior design. LED lights, in particular, consume significantly less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs and last much longer, reducing both energy consumption and maintenance costs. Additionally, consider incorporating natural light sources such as skylights and large windows to maximize daylight and minimize the need for artificial lighting during the day.

Sustainable Textiles:

When it comes to upholstery and soft furnishings, opting for sustainable textiles is key to reducing environmental impact. Look for fabrics made from organic or recycled materials, such as organic cotton, hemp, bamboo, or recycled polyester. These materials not only reduce the use of harmful chemicals and pesticides but also minimize waste and support eco-friendly production practices. Additionally, consider investing in durable, high-quality textiles that stand the test of time, reducing the need for frequent replacements.

Smart Home Technology:

In 2024, smart home technology continues to evolve, offering innovative solutions for sustainable living. From smart thermostats that optimize energy usage to home automation systems that control lighting and appliances, these technologies can help reduce energy consumption and increase efficiency in your home. Additionally, smart home devices such as occupancy sensors and smart meters provide valuable insights into your energy usage, empowering you to make informed decisions about resource management and conservation.

As we strive to create more sustainable living environments, embracing these five interior design trends can help reduce our environmental impact while creating beautiful and functional spaces. Whether you’re upcycling old furniture, incorporating natural elements, or investing in energy-efficient technologies, every sustainable choice contributes to a greener future for generations to come. So let’s embrace these trends and make sustainability a cornerstone of our interior design practices in 2024 and beyond.
