WITH LUCK & PRAYERS BY HER SIDE

If there is one thing Mia can’t do without, it’s her family; a complete homely girl Mia attributes her success to hard work and dedication.

mia georgeFrom the land of lakes, letters and latex Mia George has indeed come a long way from her television soap days. Dazzling the audience with powerful performances, she is unlike other stars of her generation, tantrum free and taking stardom ever so lightly, Mia’s enthusiasm and maturity shines through her voice. Soft spoken and wise beyond her years Mia is focused on the present and marching forward. FWD had the chance to talk to her about the simple joys of life and movies of course.

How was the experience of playing Saraswati in Mr. Fraud?
It was really exciting to be part of such a big enterprise. Even though the team would seem intimidating, everyone was very supportive and professional. Saraswati is a music teacher and is an important character in the movie. It was a really good experience.

Mohanlal complimented you on your performance in Red Wine. How was it working with him again?
I never thought that I would get another chance to act with him. He is a really downto-earth person. Up till the moment of the shot he would be talking and interacting with everybody. The moment the director says action he totally alters himself. It is mind blowing to watch that split second transformation.

Are you afraid of being typecast?
It doesn’t affect me. If it seems that I am doing a lot of wife roles, I don’t think there is any problem in that. The audience understands that the character is not who I really am. If the role appeals to me I will do it.

mia georgeYou have a Tamil movie in the works. Do you have a mentor in that industry?
Even though I got a lot of offers, I didn’t know anyone in the Tamil industry. It was during the time of Vishudhan that I got the offer for Amara Kaaviyam which is about two school students set in 1988. The script was really interesting and therefore I accepted the role.

Kareena Kapoor said that she will not act in a non-Hindi film. Are you comfortable acting in a language that you don’t know?
If one wants to, it is definitely possible. I believe you can learn any language at any point of time. Even though I understand Tamil to an extent I cannot speak. While shooting for Amara Kaaviyam, the director’s friend (who is a Malayalee) helped me with the dialogues. If I had any doubts, I never hesitated to ask. If you set your mind to it, there is nothing you can’t do.

You are currently balancing studying and acting. Where do you get the energy from?
I am currently pursuing my Masters at Pala St. Thomas College. I try my best not to miss classes. If I am in Pala, there is no question of not going to college. There are times when I haven’t been able to utilize my study holidays and have had shoots during exams. I try to learn between shoots but it is not always possible. My friends and teachers are the biggest help. They mark out important portions for me and help me with notes.

So in college are you Mia the movie star?
I am Gimi the student in college. Initially there was the whole ruckus about an actress coming to the institution. People would come up to me for photos and autographs. Then it all slowly died down. I am just a regular person going to study and I mingle with everybody.

mia georgeWhat exercise regime do you follow?
I don’t follow any exercise or any diet. I have always been thin and it is only now that I have actually put on a little bit. Thankfully I have never had to work very hard at it.

Have you always wanted to be an actress?
It was one of those things that just happened. I was always sure I didn’t want to be a doctor, engineer or nurse. I still took science in my plus two level though. I used to help out a lot of my friends and have been told that I teach well. Maybe if not an actress I would have been a teacher.

What do you like the most about the monsoon?
I love being out in the rain. When we were children, we were always told not to get out as it could lead to fever. I remember two
years ago during the monsoons, I just went out in the rain irrespective of what anybody said. It was so much fun.

If you were to settle down somewhere in the world, where would it be?
I would be here in Kerala. Maybe it will be fun to be abroad for a while but eventually I would want to come back to my state. I hear
a lot of my friends and family talking about all the wonderful things outside but finally saying that there is no place like home.

Do you think star kids have it easy?
I think everybody struggles equally. Maybe they have support from their famous relatives, but I don’t know of anybody who isn’t under the same pressure the rest of us are. Lal sir’s brother once remarked that he never gave him any extra boost. Lal sir believed that his brother had talent as a musician and would be able to come up by himself.

Are you open to bold scenes?
As an actress I am open to accepting any role. But it also has to be comfortable with Gimi the individual.

Do link-ups bother you?
Definitely not! There is a reason why it is called gossip and not truth. If you pay attention to things like that you won’t have time for anything else. Rumors will always die down.

Upcoming projects
Currently I am shooting Hi I’m Tony with Lal sir, Siddhique sir and Biju sir under Jean Paul Lal’s direction. Another project I have is Nayana which is yet to be released. Amara Kaaviyam in Tamil will be out this year.

Lekha Gupta, her makeup artist, created the ideal mix between a clean, glowing complexion and a subtle brown smoky eye. Whether it’s for her big day or multiple red carpet appearances, the actor has a reputation for doing minimalist makeup flawlessly.

Her face was defined by the delicately bronzed cheeks, her glossy nude lips completed the ensemble, and her gently smudged out makeup accentuated the shape of her eyes.

Lekha Gupta, the makeup artist, accentuated Advani’s eyes by using mascara to lend drama to the lashes. She gave Advani’s skin a dewy base and then defined the cheekbones with a warm, peachy bronzer. Her lips were covered in a glossy lip gloss that complemented the brightness of her pink costume, and her brows were nicely shaped and filled in.
