Closet of Fame : Six fetish-worthy accessories of all time

A rundown through the closets of musical legends and their iconic accesories

Published

on

We cannot afford to forget these faces. They marked an era for us. What they wore, how they conducted themselves in public, we followed it all. At one point their pain became our pain too. Whether it’s the pop king MJ or our beloved Didi, they wore iconic stuff that truly rocked the world like a hurricane. If we were to pick out a few of our favorites, it’s a hard job indeed. Here’s to the legends, we love you to the moon and back.

Usha-Uthap

Usha Uthup: The Bold Bindi

If you ever see a saree and a customized bindhi in a dressing room, you wouldn’t think twice, you know it’s Usha Uthup’s. She broke away from the stereotype of being a female nightclub singer with her sense of fashion: a massive bindi, flowers, her magnificent jewelry and Kanchipuram sarees. Like her voice raises the bar, so does her bindhis. Whether it’s a big round one, an ornate black one or even colored ones, she never stops experimenting. She’s known for her signature ‘Usha Uthup bindhi’ that’s embossed with the first letter of Kolkata’s spelling.

Micheal Jackson : The Thriller Jacket

MICHAEL-JACKSON-MJ-THRILLER-RED-LEATHER-JACKET1-746x1000

The iconic jacket was designed by Landis’ wife, Deborah. It was designed in such a way to stand out from the dark and dreary zombies. Yes, keeping a few things more symbolic, the V design that cuts through bold red was to make Michael look more ‘virile.’ Deborah only made two of the memorable red V-style jackets. One of these jackets was sold at an auction for $1.8 million. It was purchased by a Texas businessman, Milton Verret. He plans to display his latest acquisition at an Austin children’s hospital before sending it on tour to raise more money for children’s charities.

Amy Winehouse : The Beehive Hairstyle

Always known to buzz controversy, Amy’s beehive hairstyle was the scandal of the town. In fact her hairstylist, Alex Fodden was sacked because it was considered a bad influence on Amy. But this hairstyle goes way back in the 1960s, where it was developed by Margaret Vinci Heldt of Elmhurst, Illinois, owner of the Margaret Vinci Coiffures in downtown Chicago. She won the National Coiffure Championship in 1954. The Modern Beauty Salon magazine requested Margaret to design a new hairstyle that would reflect the coming decade.

John Lennon : The Shades

John-LennonBehind the lens, lies a story. John and Yoko became very close and as friends they exchanged glasses and copper cups. John Lennon strongly believed in Feng Shui, and he viewed the world through his orange sunglasses. He believed that orange was a color that enhanced creativity. It was between 1970 and 1973, he composed the song, Imagine. When he died, Yoko took the lenses out of the glasses as a Japanese tradition, so that the soul can see life after death. Other famous celebrities who sport these shades are Harry Potter, Steve Jobs, Milhouse, and of course Gandhi.

George Micheal: The Cross Earring

Geoge micheal

When he was in the band Wham, it was an exclamation to his fashion sense. George Michael was famous for his videos, his hairstyle and his leather jacket and yes. he is certainly ‘Amazing.’ But when we look back into music, the small things matter. George Michael’s image changed from the pretty boy to the ultimate bad boy. He was once asked if there were any artifacts from his twenty-year career worth saving. He joked saying it was his cross earring and his old BSA motorcycle jacket and his ‘ Choose Life’ tee shirt. We guess he does ‘ have a little faith’ in those earrings.

Madonna: Gaultier Cone Bra

madonna

When she strutted herself in the Jean Paul Gaultier conical bra during the Blond Ambition World Tour 1989-1990, the bra became iconic. Such a fashion-forward statement was inspired by the Victorian days. According to Jean Paul Gaultier, the cones were inspired by his grandmother. The design was inspired by the hardcore Victorian corsets of his Nanna’s past. She recently reinterpreted the cone bra as a cage bra over a white button-down shirt, a black necktie and black pinstriped pants for her recent concert.
