Actor Jayasurya is on a foll as he enters a new phase of his movie career with meaningful characters and debutant producer.

EXCERPTS

What prompts you to take up roles in experimental movies?

I suppose it’s my inclination to don new roles and my enthusiasm to contribute for characters that suit my performance level. Before long being in the industry, I got acclimatized being an off-roader. And today that boils down my choice of films. Ultimately, what difference does it make if I decide to play similar roles on-screen time and again?

You’re all set to make your debut as a producer for Ranjith Sankar’s ‘Punnyalan Agarbathis’. How was the transition from an actor to a producer?

My love for movies got me into acting and now again it’s making me step into the shoes of a producer. How I got to be the producer was sheer coincidence. Director Ranjith dropped in with the script, we sat together, discussed and after getting to know my part in ‘Punnyalan Agarbathis’ as Joy Thakkolkaaran, I gladly agreed to do the film. After a while he said, “How about producing it?” Thinking over, I too found it to be an exciting move and so gave the nod.

Currently unwinding after a busy schedule, how did you spend time with your family?

After a prolonged hectic schedule, I came home with plans of travelling places with my family. But it so happened that I got hitched with meetings. Evenings, if I’m at home I would spend time with Adwaith, my son and my little angel Veda who entertains me with her giggles.

Your share in helping your wife Saritha who is an entrepreneur….

She runs boutiques in Kerala. Whenever I get a break from work I accompany her in picking clothes for her store from all across the country.

Recently, you had disclosed that there are not going to be any Anoop Menon-Jayasurya movie in the next couple of months. Why so?

We are comfortable working with each other and we’re great friends too. But now we reckon being in the comfort zone, sharing screen for long can cause danger. Realising that, Anoop is going ahead with his scripts and movies and I have decided to do films that impress me for its exceptional characters.

A not-so-good memory you’ve had in the industry?

Not-so-good memories are meant to be forgotten. I never take anything personally.

You seem to be a favourite co-star of many Mollywood actresses. How do you maintain the rapport?

With all my co-stars I share a cordial relation that is based on mutual admiration. Be it on the sets or otherwise, I talk to people because I like to and not just for the heck of it.

JayasuryaFor those who haven’t watched ‘Thank You’ yet….

It’s a movie with substance and to those who haven’t watched it, I would say it’s a must watch for suspense and thriller movie lovers.

About upcoming projects….

Apart from “Punnyalan Agarbathis”, there is another movie “Philip and the Monkey Pen”. It’s a children’s movie that conveys a valuable message to both parents and children. The movie is directed by Rojan Thomas and Shanil Mohammad and produced by Sandra Thomas. A Tamil movie directed by VK Prakash starring Sethu is also in the pipeline.

 Children’s movie and Jayasurya…..

I found that I could relate to the movie so much. I play the role of a father of a boy who is of my son’s age. As I’m watching him grow, I know children’s behavioural patterns and their thoughts during this age. So when I am getting to be a part of this film, I am sure that I can do justice to this role.
