If you have wavy or curly hair and grew up hating it, you’re not alone. I too, along with so many girls, eventually got them straightened due to peer pressure. Little did I know the damage and hair fall that resulted from chemical treatments. Instead, all I needed to do was follow these easy curly hair tips and hacks! Using these techniques will transform your rough, frizzy hair into beautiful curls. Want to feel gorgeous and proud of your natural hair? Remember the following rules: 

Do not comb curly hair when dry

Curly hair grows in set patterns. Combing it dry will separate the strands and will make it frizzy. Instead, apply a creamy conditioner and use your fingers or a wide-toothed comb to detangle gently.

Use a leave in conditioner

Once you have rinsed off the conditioner from wet hair, apply a creamy leave in conditioner or curl cream. Part your hair into different sections and then comb through.

Avoid shampoos with sulphates

Sulphates in shampoos behave like harsh detergents – they severely dry out your hair. With curly hair, the natural oils from the scalp are not able to reach the ends. Harsh sulphates strip those oils and leave hair dry and frizzy!

Avoid silicones in hair conditioners

Silicones in conditioners behave like plastic around your hair and over time cause build-up. They also act as a barrier from moisture- which our natural hair thrives on. Instead of using serums which are made of silicones, use light oils like Jojoba, Almond, or Coconut.

Use an alcohol-free gel 

After applying your leave in conditioner, smooth on a gel, which is free from alcohol. This will form a cast and protect your hair from humidity and make the curls last longer! An easy hack would be to make DIY flaxseed gel at home.

Don’t towel dry your hair

Drying your hair with a normal towel will make your hair frizzy! Instead, use a microfiber towel or a t-shirt. Flip your hair down, gather small sections of your hair in the t-shirt and squeeze upwards in a scrunching motion. This will remove excess product and help your curls to form faster.

Deep condition your curly hair

This is incredibly important. Once a week, treat your hair to an intensive hair masque. This will keep your curls healthy, shiny, and bouncy! You can even try DIY hair masks with natural ingredients that you can find in your kitchen.

Avoid heat from blow dryers, flat iron, and straighteners

Heat is terrible for curly hair. Instead, use a diffuser attachment with your hair dryer which helps spread the air flow uniformly. Dry your hair on low heat or on cold shot mode. This will increase volume, reduce frizz, and make it dry faster.

Protect your curls at night

Tie your hair into a loose bun and use a satin pillow case/cap/scarf to wrap your curls at night. This will keep your curls frizz-free and retain the bounce till the morning!
